Letting Go

The Modern world with all its technological innovations has produced a society where there is no time for one another. A rat race everyone is caught up in. It is by no means a bed of roses. Thus in this rat race of life we are all bound to make mistakes. At times such shortcomings are so devastating that it changes our entire life.

It is human nature to lament over the shortcomings that we make during our lives. At times it overwhelms us and it consumes our entire life. It is common practice to stress over ” Should Have, Could have and If only” In this process we predict a future in which those mistakes or shortcomings were not made. Its easy to live in this fantasy of the present and the future which is not your reality. I’m here to tell you that if you have experienced this state of mind it is perfectly normal.

But when we continuously let our minds run to this fantasy it becomes edged in the DNA of the individual and he/she lives in this loop of going back to the mistake or an incident in the past , laments over it and predicts a future in which it didn’t happen. So much so that it becomes habitual and it consumes our entire life. We are crippled by our own mind and we cannot seem to break free and let go of this past and are stagnated in the past. This eventually takes a toll on our mental state leading to self pity and eventually depression. We all come to an understanding that it is not healthy to be stuck in the past and the fact that we must let go and move forward yet we all struggle to overcome this crippling feeling of being prisoners of our own mind.

If you are one of these individuals I’m here to tell you that its all okay. What you are feeling is normal and its normal to find yourself stuck in a loop. The fact that you are reading this blog post proves that you are searching ways to break free from your past and let go. So give yourself credit to taking this first step as it is a tough road to take and you are brave for being strong enough to move forward. and to finally let go.

You are not alone

Firstly you must understand that you are not alone in this. Every person on this planet will make mistakes at some point in their lives. It is impossible to go through life without making any mistakes and without getting hurt because life will hurt you and that is a fact of life. Be it losing a job, be it a break up or losing a loved one or any incident in life you can think of or have gone through you are not alone. So many go through the same situation you have gone through. It is easy to feel alone but understand that it is not the case. So many have gone through a very similar situation and have found a way to move forward. So don’t worry even you will move forward as well.

Even the most successful individuals in this world have made mistakes and gone through situations that you are finding hard to let go. They too go through the same emotions and let go of that past and move forward. So don’t feel alone. At some point we all go through something we find hard to let go. You are not alone.

Forgiveness and Acceptance

Secondly you must forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made or the situations you have experienced. Because its easy to torture ourselves and blame ourselves for the situation we are in at this moment in life and go on thinking ” If I had only done it this way or that way I would not be in this place right now” Its easy to blame ourselves buts its not your fault at all. Its hard to see it that way. Life and destiny works in funny ways and you must forgive yourself and accept that there is no other way life could have turned out. whatever happened in the past is the only way life could have turned out and how ever much I think over it this is exactly the way it would turn out. It is important to forgive yourself to finally let go of your past. Forgiveness will always liberate your soul and one of the most important things is to forgive yourself. Do not be so hard on yourself. Forgive yourself and accept the fact that there is no other way that your past could have turned out. Once you forgive yourself only then can you accept any situation in your past and finally let go. If you keep blaming yourself for what happened you will never be able to fully let go. So learn from your past, forgive yourself and liberate yourself from your past.

Living in the moment

Living in the moment is an important aspect of letting go of your past. We cannot change our past and we cannot predict our future. We can only control our present. Time remains for no one and it will continue on its own. So keep your mind in the moment you are in, because you can never have that moment again in your life. To let go you must live in the moment you are in at this exact time. To fully appreciate your present you must live in the moment. Appreciating the gift of life and living in your present will enable you to naturally let go of the burdens you carry.

So say to yourself the following when you find it difficult to let go

  • I’m not alone. Everyone has made mistakes and gone through similar situations I have as well , even the very best of us.
  • There was no other way that life could have turned out
  • I accept the past for what it is and forgive myself that no matter what I had done it could have only turned out exactly the way it did.
  • Lets live in the moment and appreciate it.

So what ever is in your past happened for the best and trust yourself that it will be okay. Remember you are not alone and always forgive, accept and live in the moment and you will finally let go.
